The Care Quality Commission continue to publicly shame under-performing NHS Trusts

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) continues with the promised tightening of care standards amongst social care providers in the UK.  Today (26th May 2011) sees the names of six NHS Trusts plastered across the media, the CQC announcing that the Trusts had failed to meet legal standards for giving patients enough food and drink and treating them in a dignified way.

The CQC inspectors said there had been many examples of excellent care seen during the 100 or so unannounced inspections they have carried out, but that the focus has to remain on improving the care provided by a minority of Trusts who are failing their customers.

All six hospitals about which concerns were raised must now say how and when they will improve, with the worst three offenders having to show dramatic improvements or face action from the regulator.

The availability and transparency of the CQC findings makes the naming and shaming of providers who fail to maintain a professional level of care for their customers an easy process.  The CQC publish all findings on their website, enabling the public to fully understand how their local Trust is preforming.
